Dr Lawrence Tunis LMFT FAQs

What types of issues do you help clients with?

I work with individuals and couples dealing with self-esteem challenges, relationship issues, anger, depression, anxiety, impulsivity, grief and loss, gender identity exploration, and post-traumatic stress symptoms. My goal is to help each client gain insight, build resilience, and develop healthier ways of thinking and relating to others.

Do you offer both individual and couples therapy?

Yes. I offer both individual therapy and couples therapy. For couples, I often use research-based tools and interventions developed by Dr. John Gottman to strengthen communication, rebuild trust, and deepen connection.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?

My clinical approach integrates psychodynamiccognitive-behavioral (CBT), and schema therapy techniques. This combination allows us to explore both the deeper roots of emotional patterns and the practical skills to create meaningful change.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes, all sessions are conducted via secure telehealth for residents throughout California. This allows clients to access therapy conveniently and confidentially from their home or private space.

How long are therapy sessions?

Sessions typically last 50 minutes. Longer sessions can be arranged when needed, especially for couples therapy or more intensive work.

How often should I attend sessions?

Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum and consistency. As progress develops, we may move to biweekly or monthly sessions depending on your goals and needs.

How do I get started?

You can schedule an initial consultation directly through the website or by contacting me via phone or email. The first session helps us discuss your goals, answer any questions, and determine the best approach for your situation.

Do you accept insurance?

I accept Partnership Health Plan and Kaiser Permanente insurance. For other plans, I can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Many clients also choose to pay privately for increased privacy and flexibility.

What can I expect during my first session?

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We’ll discuss what brings you to therapy, review relevant history, and begin identifying your goals. It’s a collaborative process, and I’ll always ensure you feel heard and respected.

How do you ensure confidentiality in telehealth sessions?

All telehealth sessions are conducted through a HIPAA-compliant video platform, ensuring your privacy and the confidentiality of all discussions and records.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask that clients provide at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling to avoid being charged for the session. This helps maintain consistency for both you and other clients.

How long does therapy usually take?

The duration of therapy varies depending on your goals and the complexity of the issues being addressed. Some clients achieve their goals in a few months, while others continue for longer-term support and growth.

What is your fee?

My fee is $160.00 for a 50 minute session, payable through Zelle, Paypal, or Venmo.
